  • Proof of income or financial stability

  • Lifestyle information (height, weight, religion, dietary habits, star sign, interests, etc.)

  • Relationship preferences and compatibility criteria

  • Feedback and communication history during your membership

We may also collect information automatically via our website, such as cookies and usage analytics, to improve your user experience.

2. Purpose of Collection

Your information is used exclusively to:

  • Conduct background and identity verification;

  • Create your matchmaking profile and compatibility assessment;

  • Identify, vet, and introduce suitable matches;

  • Communicate updates, invitations, or service-related information; and

  • Improve the quality and personalisation of our services.

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data for marketing or commercial purposes unrelated to matchmaking.

3. Consent to Processing

By engaging Modern Cupid’s services and submitting your information, you consent to the lawful collection and processing of your personal data as described in this policy.
You may withdraw consent in writing at any time; however, this may affect our ability to provide services.

4. Data Storage and Security

We maintain strict physical, digital and procedural safeguards to protect your information against unauthorised access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction.
This includes:

  • Encrypted storage and transmission of data;

  • Restricted access for staff on a need-to-know basis; and

  • Regular security audits to ensure compliance with POPIA standards.

All client documentation (proof of income, degree, ID, etc.) is stored securely and permanently deleted once your membership concludes, unless required by law to retain records.

5. Confidentiality

Every Modern Cupid team member and contractor is bound by a non-disclosure and confidentiality agreement.
Your identity and personal details will never be disclosed to another member or third party without your explicit consent.
When introductions are arranged, only first names, photographs and relevant compatibility details are initially shared.

6. Sharing of Information

We may share limited information only when necessary to:

  • Conduct background checks with authorised verification providers;

  • Facilitate introductions with compatible members (with your consent); or

  • Comply with legal obligations or court orders.

In such cases, we ensure that third parties adhere to the same privacy standards required under POPIA.

7. Your Rights Under POPIA

As a data subject, you have the right to:

  • Access your personal information held by Modern Cupid;

  • Request correction or deletion of inaccurate data;

  • Withdraw consent to further processing; and

  • Lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator of South Africa if you believe your rights have been infringed.

8. Data Retention

We retain your information only as long as is necessary for matchmaking and legal purposes. After your membership concludes, data will be anonymised or securely deleted within 12 months, unless a longer retention period is required by law or for legitimate record-keeping purposes.

Modern Cupid reserves the right to update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected on our website, and the updated policy will take effect immediately upon publication.
